The MAT section carries 20 marks and is one of the most efficient scoring opportunities in CEE. It rewards daily practice, speed, and clear logic more than textbook memorization.
MAT Subsection Breakdown
| Subsection | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Verbal Reasoning | 5 | 5 |
| Numerical Reasoning | 5 | 5 |
| Logical Sequencing | 5 | 5 |
| Spatial / Abstract Reasoning | 5 | 5 |
Key insight: 30 minutes of daily MAT practice can move your score from average to excellent in a few weeks.
Section-wise strategy
1. Verbal reasoning
- Practice analogies, odd-one-out, and syllogisms daily
- Identify relation type before choosing options
2. Numerical reasoning
- Train number-series, percentages, ratio, and quick arithmetic
- Set 45-60 second cap per question during practice
3. Logical sequencing
- Use diagrams for direction and blood relation questions
- Solve coding-decoding through pattern first, not guesswork
4. Spatial and abstract reasoning
- Practice matrix patterns, mirror images, rotations, and paper folding
- Track one distinguishing feature in each figure
Example: If COLD is coded as DPME, how is HEAT coded?
Rule: each letter shifts one step forward. H->I, E->F, A->B, T->U. Answer: IFBU.
Daily 30-minute MAT routine
| Time | Task |
|---|---|
| 0-8 min | Verbal reasoning mini set |
| 8-16 min | Numerical reasoning mini set |
| 16-23 min | Logical sequencing mini set |
| 23-30 min | Abstract reasoning mini set |
Exam rule: If no progress in 45-60 seconds, skip and return in second pass. MAT rewards flow, not stubbornness.
